Philadelphia Weekend Weather Outlook - Wed AM
High pressure that was bringing very warm weather has slipped off to the Northeast, giving us an easterly flow with a front just to our south. Unsettledl conditions through the rest of the week as this stalled front focuses disturbances moving through just to our south. A cold front slowly moves through on Friday through Saturday, bringing showers. The front again stalls just to our south allowing disturbances to bring clouds and showers even on Sunday.

So that's the current scenario from the GFS model. Any slight change in speed of the front or final position of the stalled front will greatly affect our weather over the weekend. Things could be dramatically better if the front stalls just a bit further to our south. Stay tuned. There's uncertainty with the forecast for the weekend.

Sat 5/2: tentative: Cloudy with a chance of showers. High 70.

Sun 5/3: tentative: Cloudy with a chance of showers. High 64.

Sat 5/1: tentative: Cloudy with a chance of showers. High 70.

Sun 5/2: tentative: Partly sunny and mild. High 77.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Update- Sun PM
Today's NAM and GFS MOS (model output statistics) predicted highs of 92. The official high temp was 93 at PHL airport. Tomorrow's (Monday) GFS MOS is predicting a high of 93 while the NAM MOS is lower at 89.

Long range, a cold front will gradually come through between Wed and Friday. More seasonable temps return for next weekend.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Forecast - Sat PM
The GFS MOS did a great job at predicting the high of 88 degrees today. Frankly, I didn't think we'd get that warm today, considering that much of last year, the GFS over-predicted high temps. We'll see if that's the case this season. Tomorrow, the GFS has a high of 88 again, while the NAM MOS has a high of 90.

Sun 4/26: Sunny and continued very warm. High 88-90

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Forecast - Sat PM
The latest GFS delays the rain into early evening for Sunday and gives us a bit more sun during the morning and somewhat warmer temps than previously forecast.

Sun 4/19:Mid level clouds in the morning with some sunny breaks, then increasing cloudiness during the afternoon. An easterly wind develops and keeps us cooler than today. Rain starts after 8PM and continues through Monday. High 65.

Solar activity remains anomalously at a minimum. Scientists continue to wait for solar sunspot cycle 24 to truly begin. With such low solar flux, expect a cooler than normal spring and summer. For the short term, this lull in solar activity will likely over-ride effects of global warming.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather UPDATE - Sat AM
It's the chaotic and statistical nature of meteorology that make even weather hobbyists like myself wonder about the value of trying to make forecasts.... Friday's models blew the forecast for Friday and similarly blew it for today. The GFS and NAM have reverted back to their scenario of two days ago- rain today, ending during the afternoon and slow clearling.

Sat 4/11: Cloudy with rain this morning, ending in the afternoon. Slow clearing. High 56.

Sun 4/12: Mostly sunny, scattered clouds and cool. Breezy. High 53.
