Taking a break...
Taking a vacation for about a week or so. The weather will go on without me :-)
Noted that the models haven't done well with the passage of this front.

Weekend Forecast- Fri Afternoon
High pressure will build in for the weekend and then move offshore on Monday, establishing a summertime Bermuda high configuration. Hot and humid weather for next week.
There are big diffences between the NAM and GFS in high temperatures for tomorrow, ranging from 74 to 84. Not sure what that's all about, but we'll go with a compromise.
Sat 6/23: Sunny. High 80.
Sun 6/24: Partly to mostly sunny. High 84

The upcoming weekend looks relatively dry and mostly sunny at this point.

Weekend Forecast- Fri PM
The blocked upper low pattern will disappear today. Cold air remaining aloft may result in some clouds and thundershowers on Saturday afternoon, but the latest NAM and GFS has diminished the chances considerably. The high resolution NAM has thunderstorms moving in from the north after 6 PM.
Hot weather comes in, starting Sunday and humidity levels will increase early next week.
Sat 6/16: Partly cloudy/sunny. Slight chance of a shower or thundershower late. High 80
Sun 6/17: Mostly sunny, hot and increasingly humid. High 90.

Week Weather Outlook
A blocked pattern with low pressure off the coast will continue to affect our weather through the earlier part of the week. Showers and thunderstorms will develop both Tuesday and Wednesday in scatter locations due to daytime heating. This activity will diminish towards the end of the week.
For the upcoming weekend, things are expected to quiet down, as the closed low moves further away and hotter, more humid air moves in from the west. Specifics of the coming weekend aren't possible at this point, but expect drier conditions overall.

Forecast Update- Sunday
The NAM correctly predicted the cloud cover for today. Satellite imagery captures the scenario where a frontal boundary is actually expanding from east to west, as the flow comes in from the NE.
The high resolution NAM has showers and thunderstorms developing later in the afternoon along this frontal boundary. These are expected to form in the western suburbs of Philadelphia and move NE to SW with the upper flow. They may not affect Philadelphia proper until this evening or may bypass us to our west all-together.
Sun 6/10: Considerable cloudiness and cooler. Thundershowers move in from the NE moving SW, mostly in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. High 78. At the shore: mostly cloudy.

Change in the Forecast- Sat
The front moved through. Some areas had lightning but the showers fell apart in most areas as expected without the upper air support.
The question mark for this weekend is how adversely will developing low pressure off the coast affect our weather. The NAM has a pessimistic forecast for the Jersey coast this afternoon and Sunday. In Philadelphia, some clouds are expected to move in during this afternoon and Sunday as an easterly flow develops.
Sat 6/9: Periods of clouds and sun, breezy. High 88. At the shore, clouds may linger with an easterly flow and some showers possible.
Sun 6/10: Considerable cloudiness and cooler. High 78 At the shore, cloudy.

Weekend Weather Forecast- Fri PM Update
A cold front will move through Friday night into Saturday. Heavy thunderstorms in western PA will likely weaken as they approach, as the upper air support over us isn't ideal for thunderstorms. We'll see. The actual front moves through about 2AM Saturday morning, but a weak low forming as it moves through will keep some clouds around especially early on Saturday. Checking the shore, clouds and showers may linger at the shore. The high resolution NAM is particularly pessimistic about the shore forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Sat 6/9: Cloudy early, then a mix of clouds and sun. There's a chance of a light shower, especially east. High 83 At the shore, clouds may linger with an easterly flow and some showers possible.
Sun 6/10: Partly sunny. Cooler. High 79.

Weekend Forecast- Fri Afternoon
A moist, unstable and humid southwesterly flow is over us. Weak areas of vorticity (upper air disturbances) around an approaching low pressure system will bring unsettled weather (showers and thunderstorms) especially early Saturday afternoon and late Sunday afternoon and evening.
A more significant tropical disturbance will move up the coast and merge with the low Sunday night and Monday.
The pattern is rather diffuse, so it will be difficult to pinpoint timing and location of showers, but for Philadelphia, any time after 1PM on Saturday and after 5 PM on Sunday is fair game. Showers may start earlier to our west on Saturday.
Sat 6/2: Partly sunny in the morning, more clouds in the afternoon. Thundershowers likely in the afternoon and evening. Humid. High 85.
Sun 6/3: Partly sunny in the morning, increasing clouds during the afternoon. Showers and heavier rain likely at night. High 86.
