Philadelphia Memorial Day Weekend Update - Fri PM
A summer like pattern will setup for the weekend with high pressure in the western Atlantic bringing a southwesterly flow and very warm temps to our area. This high pressure system appears to block several areas of low pressure that try to approach from the west.

The NAM has backed away from the showers on Saturday. The high resolution version keeps the showers to the western suburbs.

Sat 5/28: A slight chance of a shower possible in the morning. Partly sunny, warm and somewhat humid in the afternoon. High 85.

Sun 5/29: More sun than clouds. More humid. High 86

Mon 5/30: Mostly sunny and very warm and humid. High 88.

The weekend will be essentially sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s and dew points in the still relatively comfortable mid 60s.

Sat 5/28: Mostly sunny. High 85.

Sun 5/29: Mostly sunny. High 85.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Update - Sat AM
There are differences this morning between the NAM and GFS models. The NAM has widely scattered showers for our area today. The GFS keeps us dry until this evening.

Looking at current radar and the new High Resolution Rapid Refresh model, the NAM appears to be correct, as there are scattered showers to our west, moving northeast. The HRRR model keeps these widely scattered showers around much of the day.

With today's forecast changing, there is lower confidence in the forecast for Sunday at this time.

Sat 5/14: Cloudy. Some broken clouds possible in the afternoon. Chance of scattered light sprinkles/showers anytime. High 66.

Sun 5/15: Cloudy, some breaks of sun. A good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 76.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Forecast - Fri PM
The blocked upper air pattern that has given us such nice weather these past days will slowly break down and low pressure will slowly try to move in over the weekend. A warm frontal boundary will slowly approach ahead of this low; southeasterly winds ahead of the front will bring increasing moisture and an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Sat 5/14: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light sprinkles/showers, during the afternoon. Most of the day dry. High 69.

Sun 5/15: Cloudy, some breaks of sun. A good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 76.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Forecast - Thu PM
The blocked upper air pattern that has given us such nice weather these past days will slowly break down and low pressure will slowly try to move in over the weekend. As moisture approaches from the west, there's a chance of scattered showers Saturday afternoon, especially west of the city. A greater chance of showers on Sunday; exact timing will be difficult to forecast, especially at this time. A southeasterly wind will result in clouds.

Sat 5/14: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light sprinkles/showers, especially late afternoon. High 77

Sun 5/15: Cloudy, good chance of showers. High 73.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Forecast - Fri PM
The weekend is looking better and sunnier, but there are differences between the NAM and the GFS. Both models continue the possibility of instability showers late Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Any precipitation will likely be light and the majority of each day will be partly to mostly sunny.

Sat 5/7: Sunny in the morning, some clouds late afternoon. Chance of a sprinkle late. High 72.

Sun 5/8: Partly to mostly sunny, chance of a sprinkle in the late afternoon. High 73.

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Outlook - Thurs PM
The weekend is looking better, as the upper air flow is not as cyclonic as previously forecast. While a light sprinkle is possible at the end of the day on Sunday, most of the weekend will be partly to mostly sunny and dry.

Sat 5/7: Sunny in the morning, partly to mostly sunny in the afternoon. High 72.

Sun 5/8: Partly to mostly sunny, chance of a sprinkle in the late afternoon. High 73.

    Wed, 04 May 2011

Philadelphia Weekend Weather Outlook - Wed PM
An upper cyclonic flow will result in a mix of weather conditions for the weekend. On Saturday, the cool air in the upper atmosphere may combine with a weak upper air vorticity...the result will be fair skies in the morning and billowy dark clouds in the afternoon with the chance of a brief sprinkle or shower late afternoon.

On Sunday, the upper cyclonic flow will relax, and another disturbance may cause a warm frontal pattern with some clouds, maybe a shower. The specifics are too poorly defined at this time for a definite forecast.

Sat 5/7: Sunny in the morning, some dark clouds in the afternoon with a chance of a shower. High 71. Sun 5/8: Variable cloudiness. Some sun. High 71.
