Philly Weekend Weather Update -Fri PM
The latest GFS brings a greater chance of showers into Philadelphia on Saturday.

A weak and poorly defined weather pattern will influence our weather over the weekend. As high pressure moves away tonight, a very weak low pressure system is predicted to develop over southern Delaware and may try to move northward, although the NAM model suppresses precipitation south of Philadelphia. With such a weak pattern and a nearby low expected to form, this forecast could easily change. Confidence in the forecast for this weekend is below average.

Sat 8/25: Sunshine through high cloudiness early, becoming cloudy with a chance of showers in the afternoon. High 81.

Sun 8/26: A mix of sun and clouds. High 84.

Philly Weekend Weather Forecast -Fri AM
A highly amplified upper trough is expected to develop in the middle of the country, but its progression eastward will be slow.

The Its surface cold front is expected to slowly move through tonight (Friday) into Saturday. The GFS has the front stalling over eastern NJ on Saturday, while the NAM has the front stalling closer to Philadlephia. As a result, there are uncertainties with the forecast for Saturday, with the NAM having significant showers here in Philadelphia, while the GFS has signficant showers closer to the NJ shore and Philadelphia westward to be in a drier cooler flow.

A tough call, but I tend to favor the NAM when it comes to the position of fronts, so at this point, I'm leaning to a wetter forecast for Philadelphia (and the Jersey shore) on Saturday. (If the GFS verifies, things dry out in Philadelpha a bit, but the shore remains wet.) Lower than usual confidence forecast. Will update tonight.

Sat 8/18: Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms during the day, tapering towards evening. High 77.

Sun 8/19: A mix of sun and clouds. High 79.

Philly Weekend Weather Forecast -Fri PM
Circulation around an upper closed low centered around the Great Lakes will bring unsettled conditions for Saturday and possibly Sunday. The weather models often have trouble with closed lows-- today is a good example, where the hyped calamity of severe weather did not occur. Saturday's weather will continue to be influenced by this upper circulation as areas of vorticity revolve around the upper low. Location and timing of additional showers and thunderstorms will be difficult to predict-- any sunshine we get is capable of triggering thunderstorms. Things are expected to settle down on Sunday, but the effects of this upper low may still affect us.

Sat 8/11: A mix of sun and clouds. Widely scattered thunderstorms are possible anytime during the day, but most of the day should be rain free. High 88.

Sun 8/12: Mostly sunny in the morning, some instability cloudiness in the afternoon. High 87.
