Philadelphia Weekend Weather Update - Sat AM
The models had trouble capturing the precipitation with the approaching upper closed low pressure system. (Quite common problem with the computer models; probably should have underscored that uncertainty in yesterday's forecast.)
The latest NAM now shows the showers moving through Philadelphia, with another band of precipitation on its heals. So on and off showers are likely for tomorrow.
Interestingly, the NAM backs off on the showers for Sunday! We'll see how accurate that is!
Sat 3/24: Rest of the day: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. High 62
Sun 3/25: Considerable cloudiness, showers ending in the early morning. High 68.

Philadelphia Spring-Summer Climate Forecast- March 2012
While climate forecasting is not my forte (for that matter, I don't think it's anyone's forte) I do like to share with my readers what I'm thinking about regarding the upcoming 2012 spring summer season.
My regular readers know that two years ago, I put great stock in the solar cycle (and a lesser extent the sea surface temperature cycles) to predict climate trends. My winter forecast issued in November, based on the solar cycle, verified.
The current solar cycle maximum is less than two years away. While this solar maximum will be significantly lower than the previous two cycles, and while we are coming off of a significantly lengthy solar minimum, it's my opinion that this coming spring and summer will approach the very dry and hot summers we had in 2000-2001. Expect much above average normal temps and little rainfall.
In fact, by next Fall, I think we will be hearing the word "drought" in the news.
Stay tuned!
