06z = 1 AM Eastern Standard Time (or 2 AM EDT)
Weather Models use the military designation 06z or 06 “zulu”.
This is the same as 06 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) or what used to be called 06 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
The major weather models are run 00z, 06z, 12z and 18z.
The 00z and 12z runs are particularly important because they contain new upper air data obtained through simultaneous world-wide launch of weather balloons (radiosondes) that provide direct measurements of the upper atmosphere.
