Prior to Tuesday’s severe thunderstorm outbreak, I sighted these “mammatocumulus” clouds in the skies over Columbus New Jersey about 6 PM.
Not often seen or recognized, this cloud form is a sure sign that severe weather is imminent or occurring nearby. Check out this Wikipedia article for more info.
The front that passed through causing the thunderstorms will stall to our south and act as a track for moisture and rain to overspread our area for several days this week.
A bit of sunshine after the frontal passage allowed a double rainbow to form.
