Life After Twitter?

Moving to Mastodon

These posts are auto-tooted on Mastadon.

Twitter has always been interesting to me, but I have concerns that it will (or already has) become a forum for disinformation and political craziness. I wish I were a fan of Elon Musk. I’m not.

I only post to Twitter to disseminate the weather information that I post here at theweatherguy.net.

I know that a certain small percentage of you rely on Twitter to hear about forecast updates and read about my commentaries about “other things up in the air“.

While Twitter allows “new people” access and a way to discover this blog, the vast majority of my daily reader traffic comes from people who directly visit this site, according to Google Analytics.

With all the craziness I see on Twitter, I’m becoming increasingly uncomfortable having my content part of their ecosystem. At this point, I haven’t made any final decisions about disabling my automatic posting to the Twitterverse. However, I am exploring ‘alternatives’ to Twitter.

So is there an alternative to Twitter? (Sorry, FaceBook won’t work for me.)

I’ve been reading about Mastadon and I have set up an account called theweatherguy. I have already arranged for this blog to autopost to Mastadon so if you join and “follow me” , you’ll get notified of posts and updates to this blog sent to your subscribed email address.

I’m not sure if Mastadon is the answer to a deprecated Twitter. Seeing what Twitter becomes and possibly finding an alternative is going to be a process that plays out over time. But I’m working on it.
